Overview

A modular black-box chartplotter for larger and multi-display helms. GPSMAP 8700 allows compatible displays to be selected separately while combining navigation, sonar, radar, cameras, audio, autopilot and digital switching into one system. It is especially suitable for yachts and professionally built helm stations.

Detailed description

GPSMAP 8700 Black Box is a modular chartplotter processor for larger yachts, professional helms and multi-display glass bridges. The black box is installed out of sight, allowing compatible touch displays and controls to be selected for the helm design. Processing and connections can therefore be placed in a protected technical space while the console remains clean.

Garmin Marine Network shares charts, radar, sonar, cameras and other network information across multiple displays. Compatible sonar modules and transducers provide traditional CHIRP, ClearVü, SideVü, Panoptix and LiveScope capability. Radar, autopilot, AIS, VHF, weather, instruments and engine data can be brought into the same interface.

Connectivity and system expansion

NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 integrate onboard sensors and navigation equipment. HDMI, USB and video connections support computers, cameras and media sources and distribute images to selected displays. OneHelm brings compatible third-party digital switching, lighting, climate, stabilisers and other vessel systems into the chartplotter interface.

SmartMode creates one-touch operating views for docking, navigation, fishing or night use. ActiveCaptain and compatible wireless solutions assist with software, charts and user-data management. Displays, sonar modules, transducers and many interconnection cables are selected for the individual vessel system and are not automatically included with the black box.
